Ban waves haven’t been what they used to be for quite a while now. And, apart from waves of WoW account bans every now and then, they’ve been quite scarce.

But, that until today, March 10th, when Bungie issued a massive ban wave for players suspected of using “account recovery” services.

What is Account Recovery in Destiny 2?

For those unfamiliar with the term, “account recovery” refers to the practice of allowing a third-party service to log into your Destiny 2 account and play the game on your behalf.

In games such as Valorant, Overwatch 2 or League of Legends, this is called “boosting”.

Nonetheless, regardless of the game or the way its company defines it, this is considered cheating and is against the rules, as it grants those particular players an unfair advantage and undermines the game’s competitive integrity.

Thus, account recovery pertains to allowing other players to log into your account and complete Raids, Trials and so forth, all while you’re going about your day outside the game.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that false positives can occur, particularly if you use a VPN or frequently log in from different locations.

In these cases, you may need to provide additional information or evidence to support your appeal and demonstrate that your account was not involved in any account recovery or boosting activities.

What Penalties Were Issued in this Destiny 2 Ban Wave?

Well, this was a pretty straight forward ban wave.

In that regard, Bungie issued permanent account bans to all players accused of engaging in account recovery / boosting practices.

This is unlike some other games, where punishments are distributed based on the degree of the offense, ranging from temporary suspensions to account closures. But, that’s their policy and we, as players, must abide by it.

That said, since the bans don’t have any expiration date and cannot be waited out, your only option is to appeal the ban, if you wish to do so.

What Can You Do About It?

As with any permanent ban, your only option is to appeal it, as that’s the only way to get unbanned from Destiny 2.

Keep in mind that your chances of having the ban overturned depend on the circumstances that led to the action in the first place.

Thus, if you got hit unfairly by this Destiny 2 ban wave, for playing behind a VPN for example, be prepared to provide information in this regard.

Hopefully, your account has not been impacted by this ban wave and remains in great standing. However, if you have been affected, especially if unfairly, we want you to know that we’re here for you!
